October 14 - December 11, 2010
The subect matter and inspiration for Suhaimi Fadzir's work include folk tales, wise sayings, and written language from Malaysia, where he was born and maintains a studio. the style of Fadzir's expressive paintings reflect his training in Western modern art history that he studied whiel pursuing his bachelor's and master's degrees in architecture at Washington University in St. Louis. Briding the two cultures in his work and in his life is a current concern for Fadzir as he lives and works a part of each year at a St. Louis-area studio.
A.L. Walker & Ubjects III
August 12- September 24, 2010

Abraham Lincoln Walker was an artist who worked in a wide variety of differing artistic styles, techniques, media, and subject matter. His social commentary of the 1960s and early 1970s feature a unique combination of three dimensional collage and painting techniques. The late 1970s through the 1980s are a combination of realistic interpretation of life around East St. Louis, Illinois, and a surrealist view of life as an African American.
How would you define your generation? Would you use world events, political movements, or popular culture as a marker of your generation? How about an object?
What object do you think most distinctly defines your generation? This question was asked to many residents of southwestern Illinois this past spring; the Ubjects III exhibit is the final result of their answers. Each of the ubjects (unique objects) in Ubjects III is distinct and carries its own story.
Brooke White: Border Cossings
July 22 - September 24, 2010

Photographer Brooke White investigates the ways in which landscape and place are created and altered by travel, tourism, and agriculture. Border Crossing looks at the ways in which the act of travel alters our view of the landscape, as interpreted through the eyes of a white female traveler in East Africa, South America, Canada, and the United States.
Brooke uses paired images of animals and landscapes from her travels to investigate the role that interrupting borders (and the constant horizon) play in the lives of humans and animals. White received a 2009 Mississippi Arts Commission Award for this work, and her videos have been exhibited internationally.
At her artist talk in September, she discussed her current ongoing work, Above and Below, which looks at the Southern Louisiana coastline following the BP oil spill.
