First Impressions:

  • What do you see?
  • How do all the parts fit together?
  • Do you like it? Why or why not?

What words describe the sculpture? Add your own words too.

Other Questions:

  • Does this remind you of the globe of the world?  Why?
  • What else does it remind you of?
  • How is it balanced? Is it symmetrical or asymmetrical?
  • Does it have a sense of power or strength? If you think it does, explain what contributes to this feeling.
  • Do you think it looks the same or different from all angles?
  • Walk around it or look at other angles on the computer.  Is the height important? How would it change if it were half the size? If it were twice the size?
  • There are two distinct shapes used in this sculpture. Describe the shapes.
  • Why do you think the artist chose those shapes?
  • The artist used rough and smooth textures. Do you think the different textures make the sculpture more interesting? Why?
  • What do you think the artist was trying to say? What feelings do you see within the sculpture? Do any of the words under "First impressions" help you answer this question?
