Artist Statement
"The methodology behind my work is to create a compositionally rich interplay of modernist elements that are exceptionally crafted to remove the hand of the artist... I also intend to make the work look manufactured, as though it was itself an industrial product, like the industrial forms that originally influence it."
The 11' H sculpture is located in the Schmidt Gardens, on the west side of the William & Florence Schmidt Art Center.
Lorenson, now on the sculpture faculty at Bridgewater State College MA, is a native Illinoisan and community college graduate, who received his bachelor's degree from Northern Illinois University and his Master of Fine Arts in Sculpture from Northern Illinois University, where he was a student of Sculptor Bruce White.
He has created seven commissioned works since 2000, and has participated in many outdoor and indoor exhibitions including Pier Walk in Chicago, Sarasota Season of Sculpture, and the Second Annual Florida Outdoor Sculpture Competition.
"Fractured Form" came to Southwestern after it was unveiled in the Chicago International Sculpture Show at Pier Walk in 1999.
