This 12' high sculpture was created for the International Sculpture Show at Pier Walk on Chicago's Navy Pier. H1460 remained on public display at the Pier for two years before it was purchased specifically for the Schmidt Gardens outside the William & Florence Schmidt Art Center. The artist traveled from Germany to Italy to select the marble for this sculpture from near Carrara, a city in northern Italy southeast of Genoa. Carrara marble is very famous for the statuary quality, used by all the most famous sculptors in the world, including Michelangelo. "H1460" was installed on our campus after being displayed the summer of 1999 in the Chicago International Sculpture Show, Pier Walk.
