History of Sculpture

Throughout the history of sculpture, the themes that were used the most were either religious or the beauty of the human figure. Around the beginning of the 20th century, however, artists began to create sculpture with abstract forms.

The artist used simplified forms so that sculptures were just about shape, color, texture, and space.

The sculptures you will see on the Sculptour are abstract and not about any actual recognizable objects. They are about interesting combinations of shapes, color, texture and how the sculptures stand in a space.

It is up to you to decide what they are about as you walk around them and observe them from many points of view.  We hope you and your family will visit our campus to see the sculptures in person.

Remember, looking at the sculpture in its natural surroundings is a little different than looking at the computer screen.
